The Hackers Creed - Disobey

The Hackers Creed - Disobey

Why disobey?

Take control of your choices without fear.
Create, shape or modify to improve what's here.
Find your own path and encourage others to find theirs.

The Hackers Creed

(Adapted from, Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution, Steven Levy, 1984)
Steven Levy
The Hackers Creed

  • You can create art and beauty on a computer.
  • Access to computers - and anything which might teach you something about the way the world works - should be unlimited and total. Always yield to the Hands-On imperative!
  • All information should be free. Mistrust authority - promote decentralization.
  • Hackers should be judged by their hacking, not bogus criteria such as degrees, age, race, gender or position.
  • Computers can change your life for the better.

Code of Ethics

  • Respect privacy
  • Serve and protect the community
  • Share knowledge with the community
  • Act with integrity
  • Avoid conflicts of interest
  • Avoid FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt)
  • Protect everyones data (encryption etc.)
  • Don't be an asshole
  • If you see someone being an asshole contact: Hackers Creed
